Bert Miller Jr.

Bert Miller Jr.

July 31, 1933 - December 11, 2017

The race is over.

Bert Miller Jr., 84 of Waco, took his final victory lap and now joins his Lord and Savior on the podium after a hard fought race against his failing health.

Bert passed away peacefully on Dec. 11, 2017, surrounded by the love of family and friends.

Born on July 31, 1933 in San Marcos, Texas, Bert never in his life ever met a stranger, and is best known by all for his unfailing jovial nature and as a lifelong hobbyist, loyal follower and lover of motor sports.

Bert’s first true love, his brand new 1959 Austin Healey sports car, was special ordered and delivered straight from Britain by ocean carrier to New York city. This car was truly a dream he had worked very hard at in order to come true, and was the fuel that ignited his long history of collecting and racing sports cars and stock cars.

Bert was an Aggie Corps Cadet. After graduating with an Industrial Education degree from Texas A&M University’s School of Engineering in 1957, he joined Cameron Iron Works and was slated to lead Cameron’s operations in Mexico when his father passed away suddenly while they were hunting together on opening day of dove season.

It was then that Bert moved back to San Marcos to help his mother run the family business, Miller’s Drug Store, which was founded by his father in 1932, until the late 1970s.

Bert moved to the Houston area in 1978 then soon found his way back to Central Texas, settling in Round Rock. He eventually founded his own Automotive Equipment Company in Austin in 1988, which he led successfully until his retirement, when his youngest son then assumed operations of the business.

Bert’s most proud of his children and their families, seeing their successes and sharing in their accomplishments. His brightest days and proudest moments were those times he spent along side his sons, who both shared his love for speed and motor sports, at the race track where as the Honorary Pit Crew Chief he would beam and brag with loving pride.

Bert was preceded in death by his parents, Bert Miller Sr. and Emma Lee Cluck Miller, and his sister, Barbara Miller Petrich.

Bert leaves behind the legacy of his family, children, Brett Miller and wife, Julie, of Austin, Cindy Davis and husband, Les, of Lorena, Keena Miller of Austin,

The family wishes to thank Bert’s neighbors and the staff at Stillwell Retirement Center, the kind staff at Providence Hospice Place, his doctors and caregivers who lovingly assisted him and his children throughout his illness.

For those wishing to, donations in Bert’s name can be made to Stillwell Retirement Center, 5400 Laurel Lake Drive, Waco, Texas 76710, or to the charity of your choice. A memorial service may be planned at a later date.
