Darlene Dorsey-Farley

Darlene Dorsey-Farley

Anna Darlene McEntire Dorsey-Farley was 84 years young when she danced her way through heaven’s gates on Oct. 14, 2017 with her family by her side.

Darlene was born in Olden, TX in 1933 to the late C.D. and Anna McEntire of Sterling City. As a preacher’s daughter, she was immersed in the Christian community that would be her lifelong support from an early age. Darlene graduated from Sterling City High School as Texas State Basketball Queen. She attended Hardin Simmons University in Abilene and enjoyed her time there as a cheerleader.

An accomplished business woman and pre-school educator, Darlene was an active part of every community in which she lived.

Darlene was blessed with a large and loving family. She was married to the love of her life for 49 years, the late Dr. Oscar Lee Dorsey. Darlene stood beautifully and gracefully by his side supporting him through all of his endeavors. Together they raised four children. In 2004, Darlene met her best friend and life partner Edward Wesley Farley. Together they shared a love for horses and adventure. In 2016, given her love for the high desert country, they moved to Terlingua, TX where she enjoyed her morning coffee overlooking nine-point mesa. She was known by her family as a loving, proud, and encouraging Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother who loved to entertain, lived life to its fullest and maintained positive optimism through her mantra of “I’ve had worse in my right eye” during any trials or tribulations. She never met a stranger, believed in a “life’s short so eat dessert first” approach to life and all that knew her would agree that she was a tenacious, vibrant and a one of a kind soul with a big heart, smile on her face and sparkles to boot! She is dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her creator and those that passed before her.

Darlene is survived by her second husband Edward Wesley Farley; her children, Captain Gordon O. Dorsey, U.S. Navy (retired); daughters, Dee Dorsey Fraser, Evea Dorsey Graham, and Carroll Dorsey Walker; grandchildren Weslee J. Tumlinson, Allison Dorsey Berg, Evea Lauren Haass-Kiker, Jean Caroline Haass-Joyner and Dorsey Devereux Walker; great grandchildren, Baylis Benjamin Tumlinson, Evelyn Dorsey Joyner, Evea Hyatt Kiker, Ella Lauren Kiker and Baby Berg; sister Bobby Lavern Cates. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents C.D. and Anna Mae McEntire, her husband Dr. Oscar Lee Dorsey and her brother Steve Owen McEntire. Three days after her passing she greeted and welcomed her sister Kaye Francis McEntire Spence to heaven.

As Darlene would say, “Put your horse in the stable, your boots under the table, and come join us!” A Celebration of Life party will be held at Tejas Rodeo, 401 Obst Rd. Bulverde, TX 78163 on Nov. 12, 2017 from 2 to 4 p.m.

The family gratefully declines flowers but encourages donations to Big Bend Church and Alamo Heights Baptist Church on her behalf. Donations, prayers, condolences and memories are also gladly accepted at www.darlindarlene.com.

The woman, the myth, the legend!! She will forever live on in our hearts!
