David L. Martin

Sunday, December 23, 2018

David L. Martin, 77, of Kyle, Texas, formerly of Monticello and Urbana, Illinois, died at 1:35 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018, at his home.

David was born March 11, 1941, in Champaign, Illinois, the son of Hobart and Iva Martin. They preceded him in death, along with his second wife, Pamela Martin, bonus son, Bob Korbus and brother-in-law Dave Pyer. He married Marjory (Marge) Korbus on Dec. 27, 1997. She survives. Also surviving are brothers: Jack (Judy) Martin, Larry (Barb) Martin, Rick (Cindy) Martin, and sister Marilyn Pyer; daughters: Kathy (Steve) Wood and Kelli Martin; bonus children: Cari (Dan) Crowley, Jo Korbus, Bill Korbus, and Christa (Craig) Floyd; grandchildren: Ashley (Aiden), Mackenzie (Isaac), Dusty, Karsyn, Colton, Josh, Jeremy and great granddaughter, Mattalyn. He leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, nephews.

David attended Central High School where he played football and basketball. After high school, he went into the family business, working for 50 years as an electrician for C Martin Electric. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed traveling, meeting friends and family for dinner, and collecting classic cars and Harley Davidson motorcycles. He loved attending Fourth of July celebrations with his family each summer. He was an avid Ilini fan for many years. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family and friends. To say he will be missed by many is an understatement, as his record of acts of service to others throughout the years is too numerous to count.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to David’s daughter-in-law, Jo Korbus, for going above and beyond in being David’s primary caregiver during the last few weeks of his life. Without her assistance, he would not have been able to stay at home with his beloved wife, family and his dog, Harley, by his side.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials can be made in David’s name to PAWS Shelter of Central Texas, 500 RM150, Kyle, TX 78640.
