Sunday, July 26, 2020

It is with great sadness that the Gooding family announces the passing of Delores Ann Gooding, 78, of San Marcos, Texas.  Delores (Maw Maw) was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She was preceded in death by parents Bert and Pauline Ross, sister Evelyn Williamson, and brothers Barney Ross and Beryl Ross.  She is survived by her husband, Clyde E. Gooding; five sons, Clyde Jr. [Janet], David [Sonia], Trampas [Jodi], Ken [Lori], J.B. [Katelyn]; 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; siblings John Ross, Mildred Thorn, Darrell Ross, and Ronnie Ross; and many nieces and nephews.

Delores was born in Austin, TX in 1941.  In 1957, she and Clyde married and were blessed with 62 years together; she passed with him by her side.  They lived in Austin, Houston, Katy, and Sealy before moving to San Marcos, TX in 1976.    She had a strong conviction of faith and maintained a Christian home whereas she devoted her life to her family, 50 years of which was raising her five sons.  Her sons were her pride and joy and she maintained a close relationship with them and their families.

Delores enjoyed painting, sewing, coaching and playing softball and baseball, dancing, visiting her sons and grandbabies, taking drives with her husband, and connecting with family and friends.

Delores’ life accomplishments were abundant in family, profession, and community.  She was directly involved with the family businesses- Clyde’s Meat Market, 24-Hour Pest Control and Clyde Gooding Concrete while simultaneously pursuing her career in Real Estate.  In addition, she served as a member of the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce, as well as a member of the Hays County Appraisal Board.  Delores was an active member of the Westover Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir along with teaching Sunday school and Vacation Bible School.

Delores had a special gift in making connections with people of all ages, but her greatest joy was the connections she made with children; her home was rarely without the presence of a small child.  Delores provided a home with an open door and was always welcoming to anyone in need of help.  She will always be revered for her countless acts of kindness by family and friends.  She has forever earned her angelic wings and her place in heaven.

We will miss you “Sally,” Mom, and Maw Maw.

Rest in Peace.

Visitation will be held on July 27, 2020 from 5 to 7 PM.  Services will be held on July 28, 2020, 10AM, both at Pennington Funeral Home in San Marcos.  Interment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Delores would have loved anyone wishing donate, to please donate to the Westover Baptist Church, the Greater San Marcos Youth Council, or any charitable children’s organization.
