After high school, she studied and practiced X-ray technology at the Great Falls, Montana Deaconess Hospital. After retirement, she and Merwin moved to San Marcos, Texas where they lived for 31 years. Betty was an accomplished oil-painting artist and applied her talents during all of her adult life, leaving a legacy of beautiful oil paintings at various places around the world.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Merwin Richards of San Marcos; a daughter, Janet Kovac of Louisville, Kentucky; a son, Blake Richards (and spouse, Sandra) of San Antonio, Texas; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was a classy lady; a wise and generous wife, mother and grandmother whose love and counsel will be sorely missed but cherished forever.

Her ashes will be interred at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.  A memorial service to celebrate and give thanks for her life will be held at a later date.
