Gloria Weaver Tschurr

Gloria Weaver Tschurr

Sunday, July 7, 2019

Gloria Weaver Tschurr passed away peacefully in San Marcos, Texas on June 27 following a brief illness. She was just shy of her 95th birthday. Born Gloria Weaver in Baltimore, Maryland to a large Catholic family, she was the youngest of seven children. Two of her brothers, Herbert and Robert, were killed in battle during World War II. Gloria survived her other siblings Paul, Laurita, Newton, and Marie by several years.

On September 18, 1956, Gloria Weaver and Leland Tschurr were married in Japan. During his long career in oil exploration, they lived in many places throughout the world, including Beirut, Belgium, and Singapore, eventually settling in Farmers Branch to raise their five children before moving to Port Aransas, Texas. Surrounded by children, grandchildren and friends, Gloria and Leland celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 2006. As they had all their lives, they continued to travel, often bringing grandchildren with them on small and large trips.

Gloria was a committed Catholic. She was a staunch volunteer at Mary Immaculate in Dallas, and later at St. Joseph in Port Aransas, and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. In addition to her volunteer work, she held jobs at the neighborhood elementary school in Farmers Branch and used to ride her motor scooter to work wearing a helmet and a broad smile. She loved sports and games — especially bridge — both as a spectator and a participant, and often won $1 bets from her grown children for beating them at miniature golf.

Gloria and Lee are remembered by their family for the commitment they provided to loving their children, and especially for the care and generous love they gave their grandchildren once their own children were grown. Gloria was a generous, kind, determined and fun-loving woman who dedicated her life to her family and her faith, and her family celebrates the intelligence, generosity, and wonderful sense of humor that defined her life and was such a gift to us all.

Gloria is survived by her five children - Anita, Hans (and wife Liz Tschurr), Monique (and husband Ross Jennings), and twins Mark (and wife Betsy Tschurr) and Michele (and husband Nick Lorette), and by her eight grandchildren - Jacob and Grace Kirby, Helen and Henry Tschurr, Isabel and Skyler Tschurr, and Trout and Monique Lorette. We are grateful for her inspirational life and for the love and laughter she showered upon us. Following a family service, she will be laid to rest next to her husband at Coastal Bend Veterans’ Cemetery.
