James Donald Yeary

James Donald Yeary

Sunday, September 16, 2018

James Donald Yeary passed away on Sept. 6, 2018, at the age of 83. He was born in Levelland, TX on April 2, 1935, to Winston and Ora Hortense Yeary. Jimmie Don, as he was always known in his youth, was the 11th child out of 12. His parents were strong people, farming and raising 12 children during the Great Depression.

After graduating high school, Jim had the desire and drive to attend college, but lacked the money. So he enlisted in the Army, and after returning from his overseas tour, used the GI Bill to enroll in Texas Tech University. After earning a business degree from Tech, he worked in Public Accounting in Houston and later operated his own small firm in Levelland. His academic career ultimately led him to Oklahoma State University, where he earned a PhD in Accounting. He was also a Certified Public Accountant.

Jim taught accounting for many years at Southwest Texas State University (now known as Texas State University.) Dr. Yeary had a reputation for being a good and fair teacher, although never a lenient one.

In 1958, Jim married Celia Ann Davis. They had two children, Audrey Yurcheshen and Barton (Debbie) Yeary, and later three grandsons - Aaron, Daniel and Nathan Yeary. Celia recently passed away; Jim lived without the love of his life for only 2 months. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in December.

Jim will be remembered for his intelligence and his dry wit. Jim and Celia both will be truly missed by family and friends. Many thanks to Hope Hospice of New Braunfels, Elan at Westpointe, and the 1st Presbyterian Church of San Marcos.

A private burial was held at Memory Lawn Memorial Park.

Arrangements by Pennington Funeral Home, San Marcos, Texas, 512-353-4311.
