Jane Houser Evans of New Braunfels, Texas, beloved wife, mother, grand-andgreat-grandmother passed away on Dec. 10, 2018, at the age of 84. She was born in Josephine, Texas to Grover Cleveland and Carrie Belle (McBride) Houser on Aug. 31, 1934.

She graduated valedictorian from Royse City High School where she was the drum major and on the basketball team. While an undergraduate at East Texas State College, Jane met her husband, Kenneth, on campus and they were married in Royse City, Texas on Nov. 27, 1953. She later received her Master’s in Education at SWTSU and for 20+ years she worked as the librarian at San Marcos Baptist Academy.

Jane loved spending time at the beach, collecting sea shells, rocks and gemstones. She was a member of the University Ladies bridge club, enjoyed floating the Blanco River, loved reading, camping and both domestic and international travel.

Her parents, three brothers, Bobby Joe Houser, Grover Mac Houser and Jerry Dan Houser preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Kenneth Alvis Evans; four daughters, Chere Ann Evans Garza (Alex) of San Marcos, Amy Sue Evans McDonald (Lynn) of Clear Lake, Vicki Lynn Evans Mason (Ted) of New Braunfels, and Christie Kay Evans Defries (Ron) of New Braunfels; nine grandchildren, Kacey McDonald Bryant, Malia Garza, Abbey McDonald Fera, Mandi Mason Calame, Hilary Garza Esquivel, Brazos Mason, Justin Garza, Libby Defries and Carter Defries; and 10 great-grandchildren, Dana, Karys, Kaylee, Colt, Makayla, Khyler, Audrey, Dominick, Case and Fox.

Graveside services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018, at the Wimberley Cemetery. A Celebration of her life will follow at 11:30 a.m., in the Pennington Memorial Chapel in San Marcos.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jane’s memory may be made to Hope Hospice, 611 N. Walnut Ave., New Braunfels, Texas 78130, Alzheimer’s Association or the American Diabetes Association.
