John Edward Calvin Jr. 66 (Peewee) of San Marcos TX departed this life surrounded by family and friends on Wednesday February 12, 2020.

John Edward Calvin Jr.  The 1st of 5 was born August 19, 1953 in San Marcos, Hays County, TX to John Edward Sr and Willie Kathreine (Moten) Calvin. 

He was educated in the San Marcos ISD graduating from San Marcos HS Class of 71 and Paris JR College with a degree in music after which he moved to Austin. Pewee was a member of the Greater Bethel Baptist Church in San Marcos.

Peewee  a highly talented keyboardist and soulful lead vocalist singer /songwriter with an incredible cospel/blues/r&b/jazz vocal style was sought world wide,   recorded with world renowned artist The Beatles, worked with a host of musicians and performed in venues all over the United States in the funk/disco/jazz  era bands, a pro who opened for the likes of James Brown and Patty Labelle, Earth, Wind, & Fire  AND Snoop Dogg, working as a professional musician and vocalist his career spans for over 50+ years in and throughout Austin live music scene with the bands freedom express , freedom machine,  trace of Smoke, Karizma, Kontrol, Peewee & D-Wayitiz, Blynd Orange, Seeing Eye Band, Eddie Stout with Dial Records,  East Side Kings Festival, Jabo and the Old Dawgs, Hosea Hargrove , Red Cross, Strictly Business  Band, Jimmy Vaugh, Bird Legs, Gospel Silvertones, Billiy Cummings and a life time member of Better Believe Productions as well as seeing such hits as, Treasure Mind, Bionic Booty, Stop Doubting My Love, She Shakes For My Sake, Get Down, and Stolen Pleasures.  

HE also worked many years for the Internal Revnue Service.

His favorite past times were fishing, caring for his animals, and car, horse, and dog races and spending time with his family.  to know him was to know the people that he loved cared for and influenced. When he called you family you were family indeed for he realized that family does not require blood it only requires love. When he called you a friend that exactly what you were a friend indeed wether you were near or far if he had spoken with you yester-moment or yester-year.

John ‘Peewee” Calvin was a man with a karismatic personality who touched and brought joy peace and comfort through the sharing of the gift god gave him “music.” A man who showed love to everyone he met treated everyone with dignity and respect he would light up the room with his charm, could turn a frown upside down with his humor ‘fill out the space with grace and good taste’ was kind generous funny and most of all real!

John ‘Peewee” Calvin Was a beloved husband father brother uncle and friend 

John was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Reginald (Reggie) Calvin, and Mark Anthony Calvin. 

He leaves to cherish his memories the love his life for 18 years wife Hattie Calvin, the apple’s of his eye and pride and joy 11 children 7 daughters: Charlotte Jackson (Larry), Tonya Brown, Katrina Robinson (Antonio), D’Nisha Butts(Eddie), Lissie, Trish, and Josie Calvin, 1 step daughter Leola "Naye” Thomas (Kin)   4 sons: John Jackson, Keith Thomas, Charles Johnson, Britton Calvin, 1 Step son Kevin Thomas (Tasha) 2 sister Jacquline Elaine “candy” Harvey and Carna Marie Gardner (Darrelle) 1 brother Phillip Nixon (Rhonda) 

36 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. a host of nieces nephews cousins and friends.
