Mary Ann Williams

Sunday, September 30, 2018

Mary Ann Williams was born Dec. 11, 1926. She was a longtime resident of San Marcos, Texas where she worked at Southwest Texas State University (Texas State University-San Marcos) for over 30 years. She entered eternal rest Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018, at age 91.

Mary Ann Williams was a trailblazer of Jackson Chapel United Methodist Church, where she served over 60 years in various capacities including, but not limited to musician and Sunday School teacher. She was active with United Methodist Women and Communion Stewards until her health decline.

Mary Ann not only served in her church, but also in her community. She was the first African American female to serve on the Board of Trustees for San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District.

Mary Ann received numerous awards for her civic service to her community from both the City of San Marcos and Southwest Texas State University (Texas State University-San Marcos).

Mary Ann was an active member of Heroines of Jericho and Church Women United until her health debilitated.

Mary Ann Williams loved God, people and her community, this includes supporting area churches.

One of her greatest attributes was encouraging and training young people. She loved to see young people participating in church and civic duties. She truly believed where there was youth there was growth.

The health professionals who the privilege to care for “Ms. Mary” (as many fervently called her) often spoke of her beautiful smile and spirit.

Mary Ann Williams leaves to cherish her memory: sister, Narcissus Foster, nephew, Dwain Coleman, granddaughter, Brenda Brown Dutchover, devoted and dedicated friend Donna Stone and a host of other family members and friends.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. and funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 1 at Jackson Chapel United Methodist Church, 524 Centre Street, San Marcos, with Pastor Troy Bell officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Lawn Memorial Park.

Services Entrusted to Crenshaw Funeral Home, 17001 FM 725, Seguin, TX 78155.
