Mary Falbo Brown
Mary Falbo Brown, a long-time resident of Wimberley, passed away on May 12, 2019 at the age of 101 in her home on the banks of the Blanco River. Her final days were spent in the loving care of her family.
Born in Opekiska, West Virginia, she spent her childhood enjoying the mountainous countryside and the Monongahela River with her three sisters and three brothers. Her life-long love of travel was jump-started by her experiences working for the U.S. Civil Service during World War II, which brought her to Columbus, OH, Pearl Harbor Hawaii, and ultimately occupied Japan, where she met her future husband, William F. Brown. Their wedding was the first American wedding in occupied Japan. In 1948, Mary moved with her husband to Texas, and to Wimberley in 1960.
She enjoyed living by the Blanco River, where she kept a beautiful garden, and was artistically inspired. A wonderful artist, she painted over 200 oil paintings hanging in personal galleries all over Texas. Her Italian heritage was reflected in her good food, love of music, and hospitality. She felt compassion for people from all walks of life, and always treated others with kindness. Many people may remember her as a Director of the Wimberley Senior Activities Center.
She is survived by brother, John J. Falbo, her four daughters – Nancy Cherry, Billie Casstevens, Anne Comeaux, and Mary Musick – and their husbands, 9 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Mary and her family were deeply moved by the incredible volunteers, from all over the country, who helped restore her home after the Memorial Day flood of 2015. The family is always grateful for the loving and tender care she received from Central Texas Medical Center, Deer Creek Rehabilitation Center, and Kindred Hospice.
Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, May 17th at the Thomason Funeral Home in Wimberley, TX. The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 18th at the Pitman Cemetery Chapel in Muldoon, TX and interment will follow at the Pitman Cemetery.
