Myrtle Annette Langley Ivey

Myrtle Annette Langley Ivey of Prairie Lea, Texas, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018, at the age of 96. She was born on Oct. 15, 1921 in Prairie Lea, Texas to Lucille Tiller and John E. Langley. She graduated from Prairie Lea High School and Southwest Texas State Teachers College.

Myrtle married Major Jesse P. Ivey, United States Army Air Force, of San Marcos on November 9, 1945 when he returned from World War II. They became the parents of Rebecca Kay and John Patrick. They settled in San Marcos in 1949 and became members of First Baptist Church where they served in many capacities for decades. Myrtle taught many years at San Marcos Baptist Academy. She and Jesse owned several businesses in downtown San Marcos. They retired on her grandparents farm land where she remained until her death. Myrtle loved Jesus, her family, and her country.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jesse and her parents. She is survived by her daughter, Beckye Slaughter and husband, Bill of Prairie Lea; her son, Pat Ivey and wife, Karen of Prairie Lea; her grandchildren Brant Slaughter, Brooke Swinnea (Brad), Brennan Laubach (Josh), Jo Anna Gilland (Aaron), and Jesse Ivey (Virginia) as well as 10 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Jan. 26, 2018 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church San Marcos.
