Robert R. Pruett, 78, of San Marcos, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2018. He was born in El Paso, Texas, to Benjamin and Ida Mae (Switzer) Pruett on March 14, 1939.

Robert grew up in Marfa, Texas learning his trade as a Cattle Rancher. He graduated from Marfa High School in 1957 and received his Bachelor of Science at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX. He met the love of his life, Susan, and they married in 1966. A temporary move to San Marcos, TX in 1976 became a permanent move when they found a welcoming group of locals who became lifelong friends.

Robert had many passions, some of his favorites included making handbraided ornamental horse tack, cooking the “Cowboy Way” over an open fire using Dutch ovens, but most of all, hand-crafting custom made spurs. He was nationally known for his skill in making spurs and was even inducted into the American Cutting Horse Association Hall of Fame for his craft. Robert also served his community and served in The First Christian Church as an Elder.

Robert is survived by his wife, Susan; his children Angela Harrisberger of Dallas, Ben Pruett and wife, Dedra of Bergheim, Gina Pruett of San Marcos and 2 loving grandchildren, Phillip and Kaleigh Pruett.

A Celebration Service will be 11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 26, 2018, at the First Christian Church with Rev. Gregory Ross officiating.
