Thomas (Tommy) Serna Gonzalez, Jr.
Thomas (Tommy) Serna Gonzalez, Jr. beloved husband, father, son and friend to many, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018, surrounded by family.
A native of the Texas Hill Country, Thomas was born in New Braunfels, the first child of Thomas and Augustina Gonzalez. He graduated from San Marcos High School in 1966, then relocated with his family to Albuquerque, New Mexico. While there, he attended Albuquerque Business College for three years. Following a brief hiatus in New Mexico, Thomas decided to return to his Texas roots. In 1971, he enlisted in the Air Force Air National Guard where he served honorably with Military Police for over 20 years. Thomas’ vocation always leaned toward Law enforcement. Conjoined with his military duty, he worked for Gary Job Corps Center. Throughout his military and civilian career, Thomas touched countless individuals, family and community with his humor and unconstrained personality. He will be greatly missed.
Thomas is preceded in death by his parents Thomas L. and Augustina (Serna) Gonzalez. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Marie (Rincon) Gonzalez of 41 years; two sons, Michael (Jennifer Leal-Gonzalez, daughter-in-law) and Jonathan Gonzalez ; sister, Veronica Gonzalez, and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, godchildren and cousins.
A private family memorial service will be held on Monday, Oct. 29, at 2 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Fellowship and reception sponsored by cousins will be held 5-7 p.m. at The Wellington Apartments, 600 Leah Ave., San Marcos, Texas. Parking is limited to uncovered areas only.
