Victoria (Vikki) Fruit, of Guadalupe County, Texas passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018, at the age of 73. She was born in Houston, Texas to Sam and Laura Smalley Davis on Dec. 24, 1944. She graduated from Lamar High School, she received many honors: American Legion Award, National Honor Society, Gold Key and Thespian awards. After attending Antioch College she obtained a job in Houston with Channel 13 in the Public Relations department. She sang folk songs on the Kitirik show and played Juliet in a 3-hour TV special of Romeo and Juliet. She then worked freelance producing radio TV commercials.

In 1977 she married the love of her life, Jerry Fruit in Lajitas, Texas. Afterwards they canoed through Santa Elena Canyon on the Rio Grande river. They moved to the San Marcos area in 1978. She helped renovate an old Farm house for their home. Vikki loved her family and friends and they loved her. Words cannot describe how wonderful a wife she was.

Vikki worked with the McCoy Family to restore the Kyle Log House. She was the leader of a 4-H Club and the first President of the San Marcos River Foundation. She and Jerry worked with Dr. Shiner, an Archaeologist from SMU, on an underwater excavation site at Aquarena Springs. She also was the Economic Development Coordinator for the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce, who with the help of others, brought the Prime Outlet Mall, C-Fan, Rohr, and Park View Metal Products to San Marcos. Vikki volunteered at the Cock House. She and her Jerry also helped build the Playground in City Park. Vikki was the “Chief Elf” at Sights and Sounds of Christmas for 10 years. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed gardening, traveling, bird watching, scuba diving, canoeing and sailing.

Her parents preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Jerry Fruit; five sons, Davis Carlberg and wife Christy, grandson Dillon of Boerne, Mike Fruit and wife Kim Blackson of San Marcos, Mitchell Fruit and Ami Smith, granddaughter Shawna of Harrisburg PA, Erik Fruit of Houston, Svend Chris Fruit and wife Monica, grandsons Cole and Simon of Dallas, and daughter, Amy Fruit Dobson, grandsons Aiden, and Evan of Dallas.

Vikki’s life will be celebrated at The Price Center, 222 West San Antonio Street, San Marcos, Texas, from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7.
