Marilyn Volpe

Marilyn Key (Black) Volpe passed away November 5, 2021 at her home in San Marcos with her three children by her side. Marilyn was born January 3, 1933 in Lubbock, Texas. She loved telling how she was the New Year's baby in Lubbock and was a very proud Texan. Marilyn grew up in Littlefield, Texas where she was named Freshman Favorite, Vice-President of the Sophomore class, and All Wildcat Girl her senior year in high school. She then went to Abilene Christian College where she met the love of her life, Sam Volpe, on a blind date arranged, unbeknownst to Sam and Marilyn, by his track teammates. Sam and Marilyn would raise their three children in Midland, Texas where Sam taught and coached track at Midland Lee High School. Marilyn stayed home to raise their children. They lived in Midland for over 40 years before moving to Austin, Kerrville and then settling in San Marcos. They made many lifelong friends while attending the Church of Christ in each location and playing Bridge, 42 or Pinochle. They loved playing games with friends and especially with family. They both knew how to make anyone feel special, and Marilyn never forgot a birthday or special occasion. Her most important memory was the day she was baptized, May 12, 1943. Marilyn got up every morning to read her Bible and devotionals and then journal the previous day's activities and thoughts. She enjoyed antiques, gardening, decorating, tourquoise jewelry, collecting "three monkeys" and loved to travel, taking many special trips with Sam, her children and grandchildren.
