Does anyone truly care about the people?

Letter to the Editor

Editor:

I am deeply troubled by this supposed great nation that treats its people so poorly. Access to health care, affordable housing, quality child care and a quality education are getting harder and harder for people to get. People are paying 1/3 to half of their paychecks for health care alone!

We are a family of four. My husband and I both work full time. We have one child in elementary school and one child in daycare. There is not one day that goes by that we do not feel the financial strain of just trying to live life.

If we truly want to make America great, shouldn’t we be working together for the people. How do other countries, who you say are not as “great” as us, provide health care for their people. Do they let insurance companies get richer while people are unable to choose between paying health care and going to the grocery store? Can we not stop letting the rich get richer at the cost of the lives of the poor.

Does anyone truly care? Do you, Senators Cornyn and Cruz? Do you Congressman Smith? As a family in our nation, I feel sad, defeated, and alone. How is that for great?

Sincerely, Paige Biersdorfer San Marcos
