Fairness, accountability and transparency matter

It is my understanding that is there is only one candidate for San Marcos City Council who did not file his financial reports in a timely manner.  Thus early voters were not given sufficient lead time to make informed decisions about the possible influence that financial interests might play into his service as a city councilman.

This disregard or neglect on his part in missing this deadline is especially disturbing to me for these reasons:  its unfairness to the other candidates in the race; the importance of this form in determining conflicts of interests; and a lax attitude on the part of the candidate in meeting deadlines.  

Fairness, accountability and transparency are essential elements in sustaining a healthy democracy at all levels of government.
