Support initiative in favor of finding Alzheimer’s cure

Letter to the Editor
Sunday, July 1, 2018

Dear Editor,

June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month. For the 5.7 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s and the 16 million caring for someone with Alzheimer’s, it is important that our elected officials make Alzheimer’s a national priority. For the second consecutive year, the total national cost of caring for people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias will exceed a quarter of a trillion dollars, amounting to $277 billion in 2018.

The Building Our Largest Dementia (BOLD) Infrastructure for Alzheimer’s Act will strengthen our nation’s response to Alzheimer’s as a public health issue by creating an Alzheimer’s public health infrastructure to implement effective Alzheimer’s interventions. Investing in a nationwide response will help create population-level change, achieve a higher quality of life for those living with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers, and reduce associated costs.

The Alzheimer’s Association calls on Congressman Williams to cosponsor the BOLD Infrastructure for Alzheimer’s Act. We are confident that with Congressman Williams’ support, one day, we will have a treatment or a cure and no more families in the 25th Congressional District will have to face the burdens of this devastating disease.

Regards,

Delia Jervier
