Students from the Gary Job Corps Carpentry Trade are building a patio to assist the veterans with a BBQ area to show appreciation for our veterans. AMVETS will soon be celebrating their 10-year anniversary, and are advocates for veterans, such as VA claim filing assistance, employment, Veterans Court, and counseling. They collect items and send them to the troops in oversea assignments, in addition to assisting local veterans. AMVETS of Texas proudly provides support to veterans in America, open to all current and past veterans. Tea for a special twosome

The city is hosting an event to pay homage to the important women in young girls' lives that shape them into the adults that they will one day become. The event is a morning tea from 10 a.m to 1 p.m. on Saturday May 6 at the Pauline Espinosa Community Hall located at 170 Charles Austin Drive. The cost is $6 per person and will include activities, snacks and a keepsake photo. Registration closes at noon on May 5. The link to register online is sanmarcostx.gov/ activesmtx. Alleged fentanyl dealer charged with murder in overdose death

Hays County Sheriff's Office hosted a joint press conference with the District Attorney’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Agency’s Fentanyl Task Force at the county’s Public Safety Building Wednesday to provide an update of the investigation into the death of 15-year-old male from a fentanyl overdose on April 11. Police said they have arrested and charged an 18-year-old with both felony murder and delivery of a controlled dangerous substance.

School districts across Texas face a demand to hire more state-credentialed teachers to teach popular advanced academic courses. Texas State University’s College of Education aims to help address that need with the new fully online Master of Education in Secondary Education — Teaching Advanced Academics Concentration.
