Court proclaims October Breast Cancer Awareness Month

According to the Center for Disease Control website, in the United States each year, approximately 240,000 women and 2,100 men are diagnosed with breast cancer, and approximately 42,000 women and 500 men die from it. In light of these frightening statistics and the need for greater awareness and screening, the Hays County Commissioners Court recognized October 2023 as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Land conservation 'loop' completed around city

The 5 San Marcos projects funded (or soon to be funded) through the Hays County Parks and Open Space Bond are listed above. The 102 acre Elsik Tract closed last week, completing the contiguous greenbelt loop around the city of San Marcos.

Land conservation 'loop' completed around city

The San Marcos River Foundation has completed one of their long held dreams for land conservation; one that also provides protection for the recharge zones of the Edwards Aquifer. According to the SMRF newsletter, the Hays County Parks and Open Space Bond was used recently to purchase the 102-acre Elsik Tract, completing a contiguous greenbelt loop around the city.
