San Marcos Mayor Jane Hughson recently proclaimed Thursday, Aug. 7, as San Marcos Kiwanis 100th Anniversary Day. Hughson said Kiwanis International is one of the largest service organizations in the world with more than 551,000 members from more than 80 nations. “The members of the Kiwanis Club of San Marcos are devoted to improving the world one child and one community at a time by seeking primacy to the human spiritual rather than the material values of life,” she said. “In addition to improving the lives of children in San Marcos and in communities around the world, Kiwanis Club members promote the development of community leaders, positive role models, intercultural understanding and cooperation and positive and opportunities for fellowship, personal growth, professional development and community service.” The San Marcos Kiwanis Club held its first meeting on Feb. 15, 1923.

City honors Kiwanis on 100th Anniversary

Kissing Tree recently hosted a non-profit and volunteer fair at Independence Hall in the Kissing Tree Community for local nonprofits to showcase their causes and opportunities to residents.
One last bash as summer winds down is a great way to send off a season that’s synonymous with recreation and leisure. And end-ofsummer soirée also provides an opportunity to get together with friends and family before a new school year begins and families’ schedules fill up.
I was looking for a book to read and happened to see a group of books in my bookcase on running. Some were remembered as the first books I bought to find out more about this running activity I had just started.

It has been a long time since I spotted a blue jay on my property. At one time it was a frequent visitor.
For seven years, Pastor James Jacobs has led the charge in donating shoes for the children of Hays County prior to the start of the new school year. This year’s event featured a donation of shoes and coloring books for school children, fellowship with city leaders and sausage wraps with chips. Thanks to the donations, these students will be starting the school year with new shoes.
Wheel-N-Deals Square Dance Club will host an Open House Party on Sept. 5 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. where attendees will receive an introduction to square dancing.
