Woman hopes for a deeper connection with new DIL

DEAR ABBY: Twelve years ago, my son “Will” married “Mara.” They dated in high school, wound up at the same college and eloped during their freshman year (way too young). In spite of their somewhat rocky relationship over the years, Mara and I always got along well. She became the daughter I never had, and she referred to me as “my other mom” when introducing me to her friends.

Texas State announced the promotions and kickoff times for all football home games for the 2023 season. The annual homecoming game against Troy will see the Bobcats wear special throwback jerseys honoring Southwest Texas State.

During July, young people ages 8-11enrolled in the Junior Fire Academy did more than sport red hats and junior-size uniforms. Through their participation in the academy, held each summer by the city of San Marcos in cooperation with the San Marcos Fire Department, these students experienced what it is like to be a firefighter in 2023. The academy recently concluded its program of activities that included leadership, teamwork, self-esteem, citizenship, friendship and service.
