Costilla de-commits, State back to zero verbal commits
Texas State is back at ground zero.
Hometown 3-star guard Alex Costilla announced his de-commitment from the program Thursday evening putting the Bobcats' current 2018 class at zero.
The announcement comes a week after head coach Everett Withers' visceral comments after Texas State's spring game last weekend about last season's roster. Last year this time, Texas State's first 2017 commitment came in April 14 and by the end of the June, the team had 14 verbal commitments. Dallas First Baptist guard Jack York de-committed a day after Texas State's spring game after taking a visit to UCLA.
At one point during the spring, Texas State was already on pace to surpass its 2017 class. Both Costilla and York were the highest rated recruits to verbally commit to Texas State according to 247Sports. 15 minutes after Costilla's de-commit, he received his second collegiate offer from Stephen F. Austin.
One day after York's de-commit, he received an offer from fellow Sun Belt Confernece New Mexico State.
Wylie quarterback and former commit Stacy Connor recently announced his commitment to UNLV.
Now it's back to the drawing board and perhaps with good timing as the staff is currently on the road recruiting across the state.
