Texas State MBB finishes with top GPA in Sun Belt

Texas State earned the highest GPA in men’s basketball for the 2016-17 academic year in the Sun Belt, the conference announced Friday. 

The men’s basketball squad earned a 3.04 GPA and was the lone Bobcat team to record the top accolade in a sport. The Bobcats were also the only Sun Belt men’s basketball team to finish with a GPA higher than 3.0. 

Texas State also earned the National Association of Basketball Coaches Team Academic Excellence Award in July, Also in July, five Bobcats were honored at the Oak Farms Diary Athletics Academic Awards. Senior guard Deris Duncan and sophomore guard Nathan Josephs took home the “Cream of the Crop” honors for their 4.0 GPAs during a semester. Bobby Conley, Immanuel King and Nijal Pearson each earned an academic achievement award at the Oak Farms awards. 

Texas State men’s golf, men’s cross country, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball all finished the academic year with at least a 3.0 GPA.
