16 Rattlers qualify for wrestling regionals

All the hard work put in this season by San Marcos paid off in the 2018 district tournament this past weekend. The Rattlers had 17 compete in the tournament and 16 wrestlers qualified to compete in Regionals.

The boys team ended the tournament with a fourth place finish after a tough match with Austin Westlake. Seniors Joshua Banda, Seath Cuevas and Omar King led San Marcos with key wins down the stretch.

Sophomores Mason Moreno and Chris Soliz also did their part in the fourth place finish with a pair of exciting matches. Freshman Matt Banda had himself a weekend by concluding his first season as a district runner up. 

The Lady Rattlers concluded the tournament with freshman Gianna Moreno at 128 pounds and senior Serenity Villalobos at 138 pounds representing San Marcos as the district champions. As a whole, the Lady Rattlers placed second in a talented pool of competition.

San Marcos’ 16 qualifying wrestlers will now prepare for the regional tournament that is set to take place on Friday and Saturday in San Antonio.
