Bobcats claim 19 wins at host Texas State Play Day tournament

The Bobcats earned 19 victories at its annual Texas State Play Day on Saturday inside the Bobcat Tennis Complex. 

Juniors Julia Navajo-Melendez and Ana Perez, and freshmen Rishona Israel-Lewis and Sofia Murcia-Rodriguez recorded perfect records during tournament play. One win came in a doubles match, while the other two were in singles competition. 

Senior Alex Jones, and freshmen Andrea Fuchs and Flavia Gutierrez-Balcazar tallied 2-1 records at the Play Day tournament. Jones won once in double play and split her singles matches. Fuchs and Guiterrez-Balcazar each won twice in singles play and lost once. 

Texas State completes its fall schedule at the FIU Invitational on Oct. 27-29, where it will compete against FIU, Florida Atlantic, North Florida and Drake. 

Bobcat volleyball enters tough weekend

Texas State travels to Louisiana for an important weekend of games. 

The Bobcats play Louisiana-Monroe on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. before taking on Louisiana on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday’s game against the Ragin’ Cajuns comes against the second place team in the Sun Belt west division. Texas State looks to hold the top spot in the west division with wins over ULM and Louisiana. 

Victories over both teams would secure a perfect record in October for the second year in a row. Texas State has swept eight consecutive Sun Belt opponents and a sweep over the Warhawks would tie a school-record set in 2000.

Cross Country heads to conference championships

Texas State travels to Boone, North Carolina to compete in the Sun Belt conference championships on Saturday. 

The Bobcat women’s team runs the 5K competition at 9 a.m., while the Texas State men run the 8K at 10 a.m.

New Mexico State game time announced

Texas State football’s homecoming game against New Mexico State on Saturday, Nov. 4 inside Bobcat Stadium will kickoff at 2 p.m., the Sun Belt and ESPN announced on Monday. 

The Bobcats matchup with the Aggies will be televised on ESPN3.
