Bobcats earn wins over St. Edward’s, Rogers State

Over the weekend, Texas State hosted both St. Edwards and Rogers State.

 The Bobcats opened play with the Hilltoppers and had contributions from everyone en route to a 76-64 exhibition win. Sophomore guard Nijal Pearson recorded a game-high 21 points along with 14 rebounds to finish with a double-double.

Sophomore forward Eric Terry added 16 points, six rebounds and a team-high two blocks. By the final buzzer, three different Bobcats had recorded seven points as the team shot fifty percent from the field. 

Texas State maintained control of the game and jumped out to a 10-point lead with two minutes remaining in the first half. Momentum carried over into the second half as the Bobcats went on a 11-2 run. But St. Edwards didn’t go away quietly. In a 58-37 hole, the Hilltoppers went on a 13-1 run and cut the Bobcat lead to nine.

With 1:38 remaining in the game, Texas State went on its final run, scoring five of the final six points in the match. The Bobcats sealed the win to open the season on a positive note.

Production for this Texas State offense carried over into the Rogers State matchup. Every player on the Bobcat roster finished the evening with at least three points. Held scoreless for the first 2:40, Texas State found life after senior forward Immanuel King got the Bobcats on the board.

The Bobcats proceeded to go a on a 14-3 run and didn’t look back. Pearson hit a three-pointer that started an early second-half run that extended the Bobcat lead to 51-21, the largest lead of the game. 

The Hillcats responded with a 21-2 run late into the half. Freshman forward Alonzo Sule ended the scoreless stent and got Texas State rolling with 6:46 remaining in the game. A final 22-6 run gave the Bobcats a 77-48 lead behind a fifty percent shooting performance. 

The offense also shot forty percent from beyond the arc while the defense forced 25 turnovers and held Rogers State to six assist. This was the final exhibition for the Bobcats with the regular season scheduled to start on Nov. 12 against Air Force.

Tipoff is set to start at 3 p.m. in Colorado Springs, Colorado in the Men Against Breast Cancer Showcase.
