Brewer looks to anchor Texas State’s offensive line

NEW ORLEANS — Texas State junior offensive lineman Aaron Brewer, who represented the Bobcats at Monday’s Sun Belt Media Day, returns as anchor and leader for an offensive line looking to bounce back from a down season.

“Aaron (Brewer) is very special to our entire football team not just our offensive unit,” head coach Everett Withers said. “(Brewer) played guard, center and tackle for us in three years. His knowledge and experience in that offensive line is probably important as any position on our football team. In a perfect world we’d like to play Aaron at center and we’re closer to doing that. But some things have to happen this summer for us in training camp for us to say we can do that. If we can get (Brewer) playing center for us then we’re a much better line.”

Bouncing around on the offensive line is nothing new to the two-year starter. He’s just ready to get the season started. Brewer mentioned how he’s ready for August to be here, get in his pads and start putting in the work with his team.“I’m very excited actually,” Brewer said. “Ready to get in the shop, start grinding with the team and get back in them pads. (The offensive line) is feeling really good going into the season. We got some dogs with us.”

A big part of the excitement Brewer expressed is due to the work put in this summer. He mentioned how emptying the tank inside the weight room is indicative of the effort he leaves on the field every game. A tribute to the work put in by the junior is evident by the 2018 Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference Second Team honor he received from the conference.

Withers also spoke about how exciting this summer has felt compared to past seasons.

“This is year three for our program and we’re excited about where we’re headed,” Withers said. “It’s been a great offseason for us. It’s, again, year three and we feel now we’re starting to develop the program in the direction want it to grow in. We’ve had a great summer, training 8-week cycle. This is the closest team I’ve had since being here.”

Texas State will continue its efforts in developing the program in a positive direction with training camp quickly approaching. The Bobcats have just over a month until they open the season on the road against Rutgers.

Game time against the Knights is scheduled for 11 a.m. inside High Point Solutions Stadium. The matchup will also air on the Big Ten Network.
