Five Bobcats received All-Sun Belt recognition on Thursday as the conference announced its postseason awards.

Redshirt freshman offensive lineman Dalton Cooper was named to the All-Sun Belt Third Team Offense. The Prague, Okla., native has made 24 consecutive starts for Texas State and ranked in Pro Football Focus (PFF)’s top-33 offensive linemen in the country. Cooper anchored an offensive line that allowed 27 sacks on the season, ranking fifth in the Sun Belt, and helped the maroon and gold average 149.2 rushing yards per game, ranking sixth in the league.

Four other Bobcats were named all-conference Honorable Mentions: sophomore offensive lineman Kyle Hergel, senior defensive lineman Caeveon Patton, sophomore defensive lineman Jordan Revels and redshirt sophomore kicker Seth Keller. Hergel started every game this season and was ranked as a top-50 guard in the nation by PFF. Patton registered 51 tackles, four for loss, 1.5 sacks and three quarterback hurries in his final season at Texas State. Revels added 59 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks and seven quarterback hurries. Keller went 15-18 on field goals this year, setting a single-season program record, and made all 32 of his PAT attempts.

Coastal Carolina redshirt sophomore quarterback Grayson McCall was voted the Sun Belt Player of the Year. South Alabama junior wide receiver Jalen Tolbert was voted the Offensive Player of the Year. Appalachian State senior linebacker D’Marco Jackson was voted the Defensive Player of the Year. App State graduate quarterback Chase Brice was voted the Newcomer of the Year. And Louisiana’s Billy Napier was voted Coach of the Year.

Eight of Texas State’s players were recognized on PFF’s All-Sun Belt teams. Cooper was a First Team selection. Hergel and Keller were both Second Team selections. Junior wide receiver Marcell Barbee, junior offensive lineman Russell Baker and freshman kick returner Donnovan Moorer all made the Third Team. Junior wideout Trevis Graham Jr. and senior offensive lineman Liam Dobson were both Honorable Mention picks.

The Bobcats finished the 2021 season 4-8 overall, the program’s best record since 2014.
