For the second time in her career, senior guard Taeler Deer was honored by the conference as the Sun Belt Player of the week. The award comes two days after Deer led Texas State to a season-opening win over Texas Tech.

The Bobcats defeated the Lady Raiders, 87-70, behind Deer’s 44-point effort on Sunday. Deer took advantage of whatever the defense gave her. She was finishing at the bucket, hitting from the floor, converting from the free-throw line and connected from the three-point line. By the final buzzer, Deer went 17-27 from the floor along with eight assist and five rebounds.

“Receiving the SBC Player of the Week honor is special for Taeler and our program,” head coach Zenarae Antoine said. “To be honored by the people that know you the best is awesome.”

Texas State will be back on the road again to visit Incarnate Word on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in San Antonio.
