Texas State redshirt senior and junior outfielder Will Hollis and John Wutrich, respectively, were named to D1Baseball.com’s top-100 hitters for the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

Hollis was named to the 2019 All-Sun Belt First team and 2020 preseason all-conference team after swinging for .320 (64-for-200) last season. The McKinney Boyd graduate was off to a hot start this year, stringing together a 12-game hit streak from Feb. 21 through March 10 and upping his batting average to .338 (23-for-68).

Wuthrich led the team with a .565 slugging percentage in 2019, going 50-161 at the plate in 40 starts and tying with former Texas State third baseman Jaylen Hubbard with a team-high eight home runs. The Midland native was also one of three Bobcats to post an OPS above 1.000 in 2020 at 1.082, joining junior infielders Wesley Faison and Cameron Gibbons.

D1Baseball graded all hitters with a minimum of 150 plate appearances in 2019 and 35 in 2020 based on “Plate Discipline, Hit Ability, and Game Power and combined them to calculate an Analytics Score.” Hollis ranked 43rd with a grade of 85.8 while Wuthrich was listed at No. 59 with a grade of 84.8.

Both players will have the chance to return to the maroon and gold next season, as the NCAA Division I Committee Council granted blanket eligibility relief for all spring-sport student-athletes on March 30. However, the Council did not require schools to renew scholarships for returning seniors, meaning the decision to bring back Hollis will be up to the Texas State athletics department.
