Hoppe, Scott receive Sun Belt honors

Texas State Volleyball

Texas State senior setter Erin Hoppe and freshman Tyeranee Scott received Sun Belt player of the week awards on Monday.

Hoppe, the McKinney native, was named conference Setter of the Week for the second consecutive week. Scott, a middle blocker, earned Freshman of the Week for the second time this year.

Hoppe and Scott helped lead the Bobcats to three wins last week, a comeback five-set victory over UT Arlington, and sweeps over Louisiana and Louisiana-Monroe.

Hoppe recorded a Sun Belt-high 12.64 assists per set during the week. She amassed 47 assists against UTA, 48 in the sweep over the Ragin’ Cajuns and 44 in the senior-day win against ULM. Hoppe’s outing against Louisiana was the most sets by a Sun Belt setter in three sets since 2013. She finished the 2017 campaign as the Sun Belt assists leader with 11.46 per set.

Monday’s award was the fourth time Hoppe was recognized as the conference’s setter of the week. She is the only Sun Belt player to win an award at least three times in 2017.

Scott recorded a team-high 24 kills during the weekend’s matches against Louisiana and ULM. During the two-match span, the Houston native had four kills per set. She tied her career high with 12 kills against both the Ragin’ Cajuns and Warhawks.

Joining Scott and Hoppe on this week’s award’s list: Coastal Carolina senior outside hitter Leah Hardeman was named Offensive Player of the Week and Coastal Carolina junior defensive specialist Sydney Alvis received Defensive Player of the Week.
