Hormuth, Martin receive Sun Belt weekly accolades

Texas State Women's Soccer

Texas State is on a run right now that doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Following the weekend wins, Texas State was recognized by the conference on both sides of the ball.

Senior forward Kassi Hormuth was awarded the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week, while sophomore goalkeeper Heather Martin was named the Defensive Player of the Week.

Hormuth scored her second game-winning goal of the season against the Ragin’ Cajuns on Sunday when her shot was deflected off the post and found the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season.

She was also credited with her fourth assist of the year when she found sophomore midfielder Jordan Kondikoff inside the box. The assist was her 36th of her career, putting her at 10th all-time for Texas State

Martin produced her fourth-straight shutout following Sunday’s match. Louisiana saw all three shots on goal defended by Martin, which led to her leading the Sun Belt in a number of categories. Her goals allowed average (0.33), save percentage (.917) and shutouts (4) all top the conference competition. This is the second award for the goalkeeper in a three week span as she moves closer to becoming the seventh player all time to record 100 saves as a Bobcat (93).

The Bobcats have four conference games remaining in the regular season and are sitting at 7-4-1 overall, 5-1 in Sun Belt play. Texas State will continue play on Friday when they visit Louisiana-Monroe with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m
