Jones to start for Bobcats against New Mexico State
Texas State sophomore quarterback Willie Jones III is set to start against New Mexico State on Saturday, the Bobcats announced Friday.
Freshman quarterback Tyler Vitt, who had started the last three games and replaced Jones after he was injured against UTSA on Sept. 22, is out with an injury. Details of Vitt’s injury were not disclosed.
Jones started the first four games of the season. His injury against the Roadrunners occured on the first drive of the game. Jones saw action off the bench against Georgia Southern on Oct. 11.
Jones has thrown for 517 yards and three touchdowns, while completing 51 percent of his passes. On the ground, Jones has rushed for 189 yards and a touchdown on 51 carries.
Texas State (1-6, 0-4 Sun Belt) takes on New Mexico State (2-6) on Saturday at 6 p.m. inside Bobcat Stadium.
