Lady Rattlers keep bouncing back in win over Antonian Prep

After falling 63-45 to Round Rock Westwood last week, taking silver second place at the Champion Classic, the Lady Rattlers have bounced back with two big wins of their own.

San Marcos defeated Killeen Shoemaker 55-39 on Tuesday and followed it up with another 54-30 victory over Antonian Prep on Friday. This is the second time this season the team has recovered from a loss with back-to-back wins.

“We just wanted to come out and play the best to our abilities like we know we can,” junior wing Miranda Lamb said after Tuesday’s game.

Senior forward Andrea Flores led the team Friday with 12 points, followed by freshman guard Vivian Hernandez with 11. Head coach Veronda Kendall said she’s been impressed by Hernandez’s ability to impact the game this early in the season.

“(Hernandez) is always a spark plug,” Kendall said. “I think she tries to do too much, and that will come with maturity.”

Kendall noted that she was pleased with how her team fought back after the San Marcos’ first loss to Richland on Nov. 15, but worried that her team wasn’t always confident in themselves. However, this week’s two wins show that the Lady Rattlers are heading in the right direction.

San Marcos will look to keep its win streak alive when the team hosts La Vernia on Tuesday inside the Snake Pit at 6:30 p.m.
