FINAL — Texas State 24, Nicholls 3

Texas State (2-3, 1-0 Sun Belt) earned its second straight win in 24-3 fashion against Nicholls (2-2. 1-0 Southland) inside Bobcat Stadium on Saturday. 

Update (8:30 p.m.) — Fourth Quarter: Texas State 24, Nicholls 3 

Texas State extended its lead to 24-3 when Jensen connected with sophomore wide recevier Javen Banks on a 77-yard touchdown pass. 

Update (8:22 p.m.) — Fourth Quarter: Texas State 17, Nicholls 3

Update (8:08 p.m.) — Third Quarter: Texas State 17, Nicholls 3 (6:42)

Texas State's defense came up big when sophomore cornerback tipped Nicholls senior quarterback Chase Fourcade and senior safety JaShon Waddy came up with the interception. Waddy returned the pick deep into Colonel territory but two 15-yard penalties pushed the Bobcats back to their own 44. 

But Texas State overcame the setback with a 6-play scoring drive. Jensen finished the drive with a 1-yard quarterback sneak. 

Update (7:57 p.m.) — Third Quarter: Texas State 10, Nicholls 3 (9:20) 

Texas State began the second half with a 14-play, 78-yard scoring drive — capped off by a 12-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Gresch Jensen to freshman tight end Micah Hilts. 

Update (7:24 p.m.) — HALFTIME: Texas State 3, Nicholls 3

Nicholls used a 14-play, 60-yard drive to even the score early in the score. Junior kicker Gunnar Jones nailed a 39-yard field goal to put the Colonels on the board. 

Update (6:39 p.m.) — End of the First Quarter: Texas State 3, Nicholls 0 

Update (6:24 p.m.) —  First Quarter: Texas State 3, Nicholls 0 (8:15)

Texas State won the opening coin toss and elected to defer to the second half. The Bobcat defense held strong, forcing a 3-and-out. 

Texas State's offense marched down to the red zone but the drive stalled. Senior kicker Joshua Rowland converted 36-yard field goal to put the Bobcats on top 3-0. 

Texas State (1-2, 1-0 Sun Belt) vs. Nicholls (2-1, 1-0 Southland)

Texas State hosts Nicholls on Saturday at 6 p.m. inside Bobcat Stadium

The Bobcats are coming off a thrilling 37-34 triple-overtime win against Georgia State, while the Colonels defeated Stephen F. Austin, 48-30, on the road.
