Texas State put No. 18 Texas in a hole for the first time this season.

But the Longhorns rallied back for a 2-1 win on Friday inside Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.

Texas put up the first five shots early in the opening half. But Texas State took advantage of an opportunity in the 16th minute. Junior forward Kaylee Davis gave the Bobcats a 1-0 lead when she placed the ball in the back of the net from 14 yards out. Sophomore forward Sydney Kammer gained possession of the ball and sent it to sophomore midfielder Renny Moore, who found Davis. The goal marked the first time Texas trailed in a match this year.

But the Longhorns equalized in the 27th minute. Texas junior forward Cyera Hintzen sent a shot toward goal that deflected off a Bobcat and into the net to even the match at 1-1.

Another bad bounce for the Bobcats put the Longhorns ahead 2-1. In the 36th minute, Texas State junior goalkeeper Kathryn Budde barely missed Texas senior midfielder Katie Glenn’s shot that found the back of the net.

Texas State’s best opportunity to even the score came in the 62nd minute when freshman forward Hannah Solano put a cross to the left side of the box. Davis got behind the Longhorn defense but she couldn’t get her head on the cross and the opportunity went for naught.

The 2-1 loss drops the Bobcats’ record down to 2-5-0, while the Longhorns are 5-0-1.

Davis paced the Bobcats with two shots. Sophomore defender Sarah Everett and Moore were the only other Texas State players to put up shots in the game.

Budde tallied a save in the first half. Junior goalkeeper Heather Martin made two stops in the second half.

Texas State returns to action at Bobcat Soccer Complex on Friday, Sept. 14 against Louisiana-Monroe (0-7-0) to begin Sun Belt play.
