Rattlers gain experience in early season tournament

San Marcos started off the weekend early when they traveled to Austin to compete in the Cedar Creek Eagle Shootout on Thursday afternoon.

After three games, the Rattlers have two wins and one loss. They opened the tournament against San Marcos Home School and came away with a 74-43 victory. The second match of the evening saw San Marcos matched up against Vista Ridge.

The Rangers ran away with the game following a close first quarter. San Marcos fought back in the fourth but was unable to close the gap Vista Ridge had built early. The Rattlers fell in their second game of the tournament, 88-69.

Vista Ridge outrebounded (21-14) and recorded more assists (22-11) than the Rattlers. But San Marcos had a strong performance from the free-throw line (82 percent) and beyond the 3-point line (50 percent).

The third game of the weekend had the Rattlers going up against the Brenham Cubs. San Marcos and Brenham found themselves in a close battle. The Rattlers were able to pull away in the closing minutes and close out the game with a win, 58-54.

San Marcos has two more games remaining in the round robin tournament against Boyd and Hays. The Rattlers are currently 4-3 with only six non-district games remaining in the season. After the tournament, San Marcos will go on the road to visit Regan in San Antonio on Dec. 5 with tipoff set for 7 p.m.
