The San Marcos boys and girls basketball teams took part in their final non-district competition over the weekend in two varsity tournaments.

The Rattlers had a solid performance at the Hays Rebel Classic in Buda. They opened on Thursday with a 61-37 win over Brownsville Hanna, followed by a 57-37 loss to Houston St. Thomas Catholic. San Marcos picked up another win and loss on Friday, beating San Antonio Veterans Memorial, 51-44, and falling to Colleyville Heritage, 51-64. The Rattlers closed out the tournament with a 62-59 victory over Lehman to finish the event with a 3-2 record.

The Lady Rattlers were a bit shakier at the G.M. Blackman tournament in Bastrop. San Marcos dropped its first round match on Thursday, losing to Poth, 46-41. The team wasn’t able to bounce back on Friday in a 44-35 loss to Houston Baptist, or on Saturday in a 55-47 loss to Manor.

Junior wing Miranda Lamb led the team in scoring through the three tournament games, averaging 13 points, followed by sophomore forward Faith Phillips with 11 points per game. The Lady Rattlers were set to play their final game of the tournament against Austin Akins at 5 p.m.

After the tournaments, both teams will resume district play against Cibolo Steele on Friday. The boys team will hit the road to take on the Knights while the girls team will host the Lady Knights inside the Snake Pit. Both games tip off at 7 p.m.
