The second game of District 26-6A play pins San Marcos up against district favorite Converse Judson.

The Rockets are coming off a 10-2 season and a second-round exit in the playoffs. Judson lost some key pieces on the offensive side of the ball but will look to its young talent to fill some holes.

“The Rockets have some rebuilding to do on offense but are still blessed with versatile, athletic players,” Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine said. “Senior (running back/safety) Sincere McCormick and senior Rashad Wisdom (running back/safety) will play both in the backfield and the defensive secondary.”

McCormick rushed for 1,210 yards and 13 rushing touchdowns with 199 receiving yards passing, three touchdown passes, 170 yards receiving and one receiving touchdown. Wisdom recorded 300 rushing yards, six touchdowns, 82 tackles and two interceptions. Another weapon for Judson will be senior wide receiver Kenyon Morgan who averaged 35 yards per catch and returned kicks during his junior campaign.

Most of Judson’s experience returning will be on the defensive side with Dave Campbell’s Preseason Defensive MVP DeMarvin Leal leading the Rockets. Leal, an all-state defensive end, recorded 67 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 12 quarterback knockdowns and two caused fumbles last season. Lining up with Leal is senior defensive end Corey Parks (40 tackles, 6 sacks) and senior linebacker Kevin Wood (111 tackles, five sacks and two interceptions).

Judson’s visit to San Marcos for the fifth game of the season is scheduled for Sept. 28. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. inside San Marcos Toyota Rattler Stadium.
