San Marcos well represented in District 14-6A All-District awards

San Marcos’ season came to a close on Saturday in the second round of the UIL 6A Division II Region II Area Playoffs. But the Rattlers have a lot to be proud of: The first district title in 14 years, a 10-2 season and 25 players being honored with District 14-6A All-District awards.

Also being honored by the district is the San Marcos coaching staff — Head coach Mark Soto, Assistant head coach Gilbert Rodriguez, offensive coordinator Victor Sierra Jr., strength and conditioning coach Bruce Webb and position coaches Ronnie Robledo, TP Miller, Ben Yock, Austin Quinney, Blake Rubenstein, Bryan Castro, Andre Sierra, Lisa Mazur, Kolton Bragg, Jason Calloway and Kristian Cogdill.

District 14-6A Awards

District MVP: Prudencio Calderon

- 1,272 passing yards with 12 touchdowns, .546 completion percentage and 5 interceptions

- 1,750 rushing yards with 27 touchdowns, eight 100+ yard games rushing

Defensive MVP: Demarcus Hall

- 28 solo tackles, 18 passes defended and five interceptions

Defensive Newcomer: Therrance Soto

- 89 total tackles, 24 solo tackles and two interceptions

Coaching Staff of the Year: San Marcos
- 10-2 overall, 5-0 district record and the District 14-6A title

First team running back: Jamon Johnson

- 1,344 rushing yards, 17 touchdowns and seven 100+ yard games

- 17 receptions for 213 yards and one touchdown

First team wide receiver: Elijah Akiens

- 24 receptions for 352 yards and six touchdowns

First team offensive guard: Justin Alvarez

First team offensive tackle: Terry Onyia

First team defensive tackle: Tristan Williams

- 49 total tackles, 34 assists and 13 solo tackles

First team defensive end: Gabe Urrutia

- 36 total tackles, seven sacks and five solo tackles

First team inside linebacker: Michael Vargas

- 114 total tackles, 95 assists, 19 solo tackles and three sacks

First team safety: TaShumbrae ‘Scooter’ Brown

- 86 total tackles, 36 solo tackles, two interceptions and one fumble recovery

Second team wide receiver: Julian Perez

- 29 receptions for 347 yards and three touchdowns

Second team wide receiver: Mhyson Williams

- 18 receptions for 183 yards and two touchdowns

Second team tight end/H-Back: Israel Romero

- 3 receptions for 37 yards

Second team center: Gary Alvaraz

Second team offensive guard: Mark Velasquez

Second team punter: Elijah Akiens

- 20 punts for 603 yards and eight punts inside the 20-yard line

Second team outside linebacker: Joshua Banda

- 76 total tackles, 24 solo tackles, 1.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries

Second team cornerback: Javier Gonzalez

- 33 total tackles, 19 solo tackles, one forced fumble and two interceptions

Second team kicker: Francisco Menchaca

- 57 of 61 PAT’s made, seven of nine FG’s made and a long of 45 yards
