Senior midfielder Alyssa Phelan volleyed a shot past Little Rock goalkeeper Kate Hamilton to propel Texas State to a 3-2 double-overtime win inside the Trojans’ Coleman Sports & Recreation Complex on Sunday.

The Bobcats (9-4-1, 7-1-0 Sun Belt) pushed their winning streak to six games following the victory over Little Rock (7-7-2, 2-3-2). Texas State is now atop the Sun Belt standings with 21 points and are three points ahead of second place South Alabama.

The Trojans opened Sunday’s game on a strong run. Little Rock outshot the Bobcats, 8-2. Sophomore goalkeeper Heather Martin recorded four saves. Her third save came when the Trojans were awarded a penalty kick after Texas State was called for a handball. Martin dove to her right to block Little Rock’s penalty shot.

The Trojans ended the Bobcats’ scoreless streak at 560:55 when Little Rock freshman midfielder Lillian Davis scored off a corner kick to take a 1-0 lead.

Texas State equalized in the 60th minute when sophomore defender Genesis Turman sent a cross to sophomore forward Kaylee Davis, which she headed toward goal and the ball deflected off Hamilton’s hands into the goal.

Senior forward Kassi Hormuth gave the Bobcats’ a 2-1 advantage when she sent a shot from 30 yards out that found the upper right corner of the goal.

The Trojans got the opportunity to equalize with 38.2 seconds remaining in regulation when Turman ran into a Little Rock player and was awarded a penalty kick. Trojan freshman midfielder Morgan Smocovich converted the penalty kick to send the match into overtime.

Texas State took the 3-2 lead in the 106th minute junior Jamie Brown sent a throw-in down the left sideline. Davis ran the ball down and sent it to Phelan and she scored to put the Bobcats on top.

The Bobcats take the field on Friday against Troy inside Bobcat Soccer Complex at 7 p.m.
