Texas State opened Saturday’s game with a touchdown but couldn’t keep up with Arkansas State.

The Red Wolves outscored the Bobcats, 30-6, in the final 55:42 to down Texas State, 30-12, inside Centennial Bank Stadium in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

The Bobcats took their opening possession down the field in 12 plays. Texas State sophomore running back Anthony D. Taylor found the endzone on a five-yard run to give the Bobcats the lead, but freshman kicker Foster Hilborn missed the PAT: Texas State 6, Arkansas State 0.

The Bobcat defense held strong during the Red Wolves' first possession. Arkansas State was forced to kick a 39-yard field goal, which it converted to bring the score to 6-3.

But freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Haydel fumbled the following kickoff at the Bobcat 24-yard line. Arkansas State took advantage of Texas State's mistake when junior running back Warren Wand scored on an 8-yard run to give the Red Wolves' a 10-6 advantage.

Arkansas State added to its lead later in the first quarter when redshirt junior quarterback Justice Hansen scored on a 1-yard run to extend the Red Wolves' advantage to 16-6.

Both teams kept each other in check in the second quarter to keep the score at 16-6 at the half.

Texas State cut the Arkansas State lead to 16-12 in the third quarter when freshman running back Robert Brown Jr. recorded a career-high 71-yard run to get the Bobcats down to the Arkansas State 14-yard line. Fifth-year senior quarterback Damian Williams completed the touchdown-drive when he found Taylor on an 18-yard screen pass. The Bobcats got to within 16-12 after Hilborn missed the PAT.

Texas State, however, wouldn't find the endzone again.

Arkansas State took advantage of a special teams mistake when sophomore punter Marcus Ripley tried to pick up a first down on fourth down at the Bobcat 21. The attempt failed and the Red Wolves gained possession deep inside Bobcat territory. Hansen scored his second rushing touchdown of the day to give Arkansas State a 23-12 advantage.

The Red Wolves added another touchdown when Hansen connected with Kendrick Edwards on a 12-yard pass.

Texas State fell to 2-9 following the 30-12 loss to Arkansas State.

The Bobcats finish the season on the road against Troy on Friday at 3 p.m.
