Texas State falls to Air Force in season opener

Texas State Men's Basketball

Texas State began the 2017-18 campaign with a 65-57 loss to Air Force on Sunday at Clune Arena.

The Falcons held an advantage throughout most of the opening half but Texas State rallied to grab a 22-21 lead. Air Force, however, fought its way back to take a 33-24 advantage into the half.

The Falcons held control of the second period until late in the half. Texas State outscored Air Force, 33-32, but the Bobcats dropped its opening game, 65-57.

“We did not play with the energy or crispness that we needed to play with,” head coach Danny Kaspar said in a statement. “We have to correct this problem of too many turnovers. In the two exhibition games we had close to 20 in each and tonight we had 20, which was probably the difference in the game. I thought this was a game we could have won but we let it get away from us at the end of the first half. We have to learn from this experience and move forward.”

Sophomore guard Nijal Pearson led the Bobcats with 13 points and six rebounds. Senior forward Immanuel King added nine points and four rebounds. Senior guard Tyler Blount recorded seven points.

Texas State takes the court Wednesday in its home opener against I-35 rival UTSA at 7 p.m. inside Strahan Coliseum.
