Texas State’s winning streak is at seven games following a 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-17) win over UT Arlington on Friday at Strahan Coliseum.

The win was the Bobcats’ 10th-straight home win over the Mavericks, and sixth-consecutive conference match where they swept their opponent — It’s their longest such streak since 2000.

Texas State and UTA battled back-and-forth in the opening set with neither team gaining more than a three-point lead. After the opening frame was tied at 18-18, the Bobcats finished on a 7-1 run to claim the first period, 25-19.

The Mavericks jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the following set. Texas State responded with a 9-2 run to grab a 10-6 advantage. The Bobcats pushed their lead out to 20-14. UTA cut the Texas State lead down to 22-20. But the Bobcats won the second set, 25-21 to take a 2-0 match advantage.

Texas State held a small 12-10 lead in the third set when it claimed seven of the next nine points to extend the advantage to 19-12. The Bobcats went on to win the third set, 25-17, and secured the sweep.

“We needed a match like this, because we’re not always going to be perfect,” head coach Karen Chisum said following Friday’s win. “We had that kind of slump tonight. Fortunately, we were at home and we were able to take care of business. I was disappointed with our blocking. (UTA) outblocked us 5-3, and that should not have happened. Micah (Dinwiddie) did a great job on the backline. We struggled passing the ball overall and getting it to the middle. That was our game plan, but overall I’m going to take the win.

“What’s nice is now we have four days of practice before we have to play again. We get a whole weekend off, and we don’t have to travel next week either.”

Sophomore outside hitter Megan Porter finished with a match-high 12 kills combined with seven digs and a career-high three aces. Sophomore outside hitter Amy Pflughaupt recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 10 kills and 10 digs against the Mavericks. Senior middle blocker Jaliyah Bolden added 10 kills and sophomore libero Micah Dinwiddie had 22 digs. Senior setter Erin Hoppe tallied 29 assists.

Texas State led the match in kills, 48-30, assists, 46-28, aces, 4-1, hitting percentage, .272-.168, and digs, 57-41.

The Bobcats continue Sun Belt play against Georgia Southern on Friday, Oct. 20 inside Strahan Coliseum at 6:30 p.m.
