Texas State loses fifth straight

Texas State Men's Basketball

Texas State made a late-game push, but it wasn’t enough for the Bobcats to upset Louisiana on the road.

The Ragin’ Cajuns handed Texas State a 73-63 loss on Thursday - The Bobcats fifth-straight loss.

"We probably played Louisiana at home better than anyone has this year. If we had played the first half like we did the second half, I think it would have been another one of those games that went down to the wire," head coach Danny Kaspar said in a statement. "Our guys gave great effort tonight and battled. Next up is ULM and we hope to get at least one of the road this trip."

Texas State jumped out a quick 5-0 lead behind a bucket from sophomore guard Nijal Pearson and a 3-pointer from senior guard Tyler Blount.

But Louisiana responded with nine consecutive points in 3:25. Blount ended the Ragin’ Cajun run with a shot from beyond the arc. Louisiana answered again with a 10-0 run.

Texas State fought back to cut the deficit down to 21-18, but the Ragin’ Cajuns took a 34-34 lead into the intermission.

Louisiana had firm control of the game throughout most of the second half, until the Bobcats made a late-game run.

Texas State took advantage of an And-1 play from Pearson and a 3-pointer by freshman guard Shelby Adams to cut the Ragin’ Cajun lead down to 60-55 with 4:21 remaining in regulation.

Louisiana, however, was too much for the Bobcats. Texas State dropped its fifth straight road game to the Ragin’ Cajuns - The Bobcats have not defeated Louisiana on the road during their time in the Sun Belt.

Pearson led the Bobcats with 15 points, and he added four rebounds and two assists. Senior forward Immanuel King scored 14 points and secured a team-high six rebounds and three blocks. Blount added 12 points for Texas State.
