Texas State men’s, women’s basketball teams release full 2018-19 schedules

Texas State men’s and women’s basketball teams released their full 2018-19 schedules on Wednesday. 

On the men’s side, Texas State plays 31 games with 14 at the newly-renovated Strahan Arena. The Bobcats play 15 road games and have two neutral-site matchups. 

On the non-conference slate, Texas State begins the season at home against Air Force on Friday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. The Bobcats continue with Hardin-Simmons and then travel to Des Moines, Iowa for their first road game against Drake. 

Texas State takes on Cal Poly, USC Upstate and Portland at the Portland Classic. The Bobcats return home to play Rice before hitting the road to take on UTSA and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The team returns home to face Houston Baptist. Texas State takes on UTRGV before playing SEC foe Arkansas. Texas State hosts Howard Payne before beginning Sun Belt competition. 

The Bobcats start conference play inside Strahan against Georgia Southern on Thursday, Jan. 3 and then takes on Georgia State. Texas State travels to the Carolinas to play Coastal Carolina followed by Appalachian State. The Bobcats return to San Marcos to play Little Rock and Arkansas State. 

Texas State travels to Georgia for rematches against Georgia State and Georgia Southern. The Bobcats host UT Arlington followed by App State and Coastal Carolina. The Bobcats then go to Arkansas to take on Arkansas State and Little Rock. The squad then hosts the two Sun Belt Louisiana schools Louisiana-Monroe and Louisiana. 

Texas State finishes the regular season with a three-game road trip against Troy, South Alabama and UTA. 

“We feel we have come up with a competitive non-conference schedule to help us prepare for tough Sun Belt Conference play,” head coach Danny Kaspar said in a statement. “We have Air Force, Rice and Houston Baptist at home with tough road games against Arkansas, Drake, UTSA, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and UTRGV. We also have a good Thanksgiving Classic tournament in Portland. I feel we will be battle-tested going into conference action.”

The Sun Belt tournament begins with first round games taking place at campus locations on March 12. The tournament finishes at Lakefront Arena in New Orleans on March 14-17. 

Texas State looks to bounce back from a 15-18 campaign last season, where it went 7-11 in the Sun Belt. 

The women’s schedule features 27 games with 12 games at Strahan Arena. The Bobcats have 14 road contests and one matchup at a neutral-site. 

Texas State begins its season in the preseason women’s National Invitational Tournament against New Mexico in Albuquerque on Nov. 9.  

The Bobcats continue on the road against UTSA. Texas State plays its first home game against Oral Roberts on Nov. 24. The Bobcats travel to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi before heading to Stillwater, Okla. to play the Big 12’s Oklahoma State. Texas State returns to San Marcos to play St. Thomas before heading to Columbia, Mo. to play the SEC’s Missouri. 

The Bobcats take part in the Tulane Classic, where they’ll play St. Mary’s followed by either Tulane or Old Dominion. 

Texas State plays one final home game against Texas A&M-International before starting Sun Belt play. 

“Our team is looking forward to the reward of the Preseason WNIT and the challenge of our preseason schedule,” head coach Zenarae Antoine said in statement. “Our fans will find that our schedule will feature teams that saw postseason play in 2018 and the schedule will prepare us for our Sun Belt Conference slate.” 

The Bobcats begin conference competition on the road against Georgia Southern on Thursday, Jan. 3. followed by Georgia State. 

Texas State hosts Coastal Carolina and Appalachian State, and then travels to face Little Rock and Arkansas State. 

The Bobcats have home contests against Georgia State and Georgia Southern before traveling to face UT Arlington. Texas State remains on the road to play App State and Coastal Carolina. 

The Bobcats return to Strahan to face Arkansas State and Little Rock. The team plays their final road games of the regular season against Louisiana-Monroe and Louisiana. 

Texas State finishes Sun Belt play with a three-game homestand against Troy, South Alabama and UTA. 

The Sun Belt tournament begins on March 11 at Lakefront Arena.
