Texas State shuts out ULM

Texas State Women's Soccer

Texas State continued its dominant conference run when they visited Louisiana-Monroe Friday night. The Lady Bobcats are in the middle of a five-game winning streak that doesn’t appear to slow up anytime soon following a 3-0 win over the Warhawks.

Friday night’s win not only improves the Bobcat’s record to 8-4-1 overall, 6-1 in Sun Belt play, but clinched their conference tournament berth. The offensive attack has been the driving force of this Bobcat team and they continued to produce against the Warhawks.

The first of three goals came in the ninth minute when senior forward Kassi Hormuth found the lower-right corner of the goal after freshman defender Holly Streber fed Hormuth the ball. Less than 10 minutes later, senior midfielder Rachel Grout extended the Bobcat lead when she received the ball behind the Warhawk defenders for an easy goal.

Texas State closed out the first half with Grout’s team-high seventh goal of the season when freshman midfielder Renny Moore sent a cross into the box that found Grout in position to convert the final goal of the match. The second half consisted of five more Texas State shots with three on target. Overall, the Bobcats both outshot (16-3) and had more corner kicks (6-1) than ULM.

Defensively, Heather Martin made a save to record her fifth-consecutive shutout. Her Goals Attempted Average dropped to 0.67 percent and her save percentage increased to .846 on the year.

The Bobcats will have one more game this weekend before returning home next week. Texas State is scheduled to continue play Sunday at 1 p.m. against the Little Rock Trojans.
