Texas State snapped Stephen F. Austin’s 11-game winning streak Tuesday night with a 3-1 (25-15,15-25, 25-20, 25-18) win.

The Bobcats and Lady Jacks were forced to play at Central Heights High School in Nacogdoches after a transformer blew 20 minutes before first serve, knocking out power around SFA’s campus.

The change in location didn’t affect Texas State. The Bobcats jumped in front of SFA, 4-1, early in the match. But the Lady Jacks evened the opening frame at 6-6. After Texas State regained the lead, SFA got to within 17-15, but the Bobcats finished the set on an 8-0 run to claim it 25-15.

The Lady Jacks rebounded in the second set to even the match at 1-1 with a 25-15 win of their own.

SFA opened the third set with a 7-4 advantage but Texas State rattled off four straight points to grab the lead at 8-7. After the set was tied at 19-19, the Bobcats pulled away from the Lady Jacks to take the set, 25-20.

Texas State cruised to a fourth-set 25-18 win to take the match, 3-1.

Senior middle blocker Jaliyah Bolden finished Tuesday night with a match-high 15 kills. Sophomore outside hitter Megan Porter recorded 16 digs and 13 kills. Junior middle blocker Madison Daigle tallied 11 kills. Senior setter Erin Hoppe amassed 29 assists, while freshman setter Brooke Johnson had 21 assists and 10 digs.

“The team stayed with our gameplan,” head coach Karen Chisum said in a statement. “Our plan was to hit over the outsides and I though both of our setters did a very good job with that. We knew that they were a very good team when they were in system, so we wanted to get them out of system. We did a nice job and it was nice to see the streak go down.”

Texas State plays its final non-conference tournament at the Jason’s Deli Baylor Classic in Waco. The Bobcats begin tournament play against Baylor on Friday at 6 p.m.
